I saw that awful bogus MADD petition chain with that absolutely horrid poem and guilt-trips etc. posted on some site - people are still getting taken in by this evil yet unrealistic rubbish. I once had a mini-rant on that chain but don't know wher...

With such obvious grammatical errors I'm surprised anyone would actually believe that email came from a financial institution but there'll always be someone to surprise us, I guess.

Living in Fear

I read the excellent article written by member Brett Christensen on the misinformation concerning swine flu, I notice that many of the members are from "down-under" but I'm sure you are all aware of the the news that comes out of the USA concerning new presidents, old presidents, new administrations and old administrations. I was born and raised in this country, I served in Vietnam for this country, I worked all my life and raised 4 children (2 were mine by a first marriage, and 2 were my stepch… Continue

Call to Arms - Swine Flu Misinformation

Some email hoaxes are relatively harmless...they may clutter inboxes and annoy recipients but do little real damage. Others, however, can have a much greater impact. I have began to see a few hoaxes and dubious "information" messages pertaining to H1N1 (Swine Flu) and this is a worrying trend. An example is one that I have just published an article about that claims that 6 out of 10 people in the US will die… Continue

Virtual Relations

Virtuality (Reposted - have not written in a while.)
Jul 22, 2008, 10:59pm

In this era of rapid developments in information technology we develop friendships and relations across the sky and seas through the Internet. Gone are the days of pen pals through snail mail, of sending polaroids and snap shots, of thinking of right words to write in better penmanship. Even SMS and MMS are passe'.

These days, all one needs is a computer and an internet connection. Log in to Friendster, Tagged, Netlog,… Continue

Whos' getting sick of chain e-mails?

Well I don't know if anyone else will even be able to see this or respond, but is anyone else getting tired of receiving chain e-mails? I don't mind some of the 'fair dinkum' ones, but most of what I get is rubbish.

I'm particularly pissed off when people I don't otherwise hear from include me on the list when they feel obligated to pass on the 'bad luck' ones - send to 10 people in 5 minutes or die/have bad luck etc etc!!

Every time I get one I search on the Hoax Slayer site, then copy and pa… Continue

Conspiracy Theories

From time to time I receive links to various conspiracy theory websites and it makes me wonder about

a) the people who create these theories and sites and
b) the people who believe them.

I remember one which told me that within a few years we will all be compulsorily fitted with microchips in our wrists. Without our microchips we would virtually have no identity, no way of gaining employment, no access to money...etc.etc. This is supposedly already happening in some half-baked countries and we… Continue
